इन्द्रके पूछनेपर द्विजश्रेष्ठ नारदने उन्हें जैसे और जिस ढंगसे वह कथा कही थी, वैसे ही मैं भी कहूँगा। तुम भी मेरी कही हुई उस कथाको ध्यान देकर सुनो ।।
indra-ke pṛcchane para dvijaśreṣṭha-nāradena tebhyaḥ yathā ca yena ḍhaṅgena sā kathā kathitā āsīt, tathā eva aham api vakṣyāmi | tvam api mayā uktāṃ tāṃ kathāṃ dhyānaṃ dattvā śṛṇu || iti śrīmahābhārate śāntiparvaṇi mokṣadharmaparvaṇi ucchavṛttyupākhyāne dvipañcāśad-adhika-triśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ ||
قال بهيشما: «لما سأل إندرا، قصَّ نارادا—خيرُ البراهمة—تلك الحكاية له كما وقعت تمامًا وبالأسلوب نفسه الذي رُويت به. وعلى هذا النحو سأرويها أنا أيضًا. وأنت كذلك، بعقلٍ حاضر، أصغِ جيدًا إلى القصة التي أنطق بها.»
