Educational Q&A

The verse teaches the Lord’s all-encompassing sovereignty: He is simultaneously agent (kartā), cause (kāraṇa), and effect (kārya), and also the very ground of moral and cosmic order (ājñā, vidhāna) and ultimate reality (tattva). Ethically, it frames dharma and right action as rooted in the Divine order, while devotion is validated as a fitting response to the One who pervades and sustains all.

In the Shanti Parva’s instructional setting, Narada is describing the nature of the Supreme Lord—especially His relationship with devotees and His role as the ultimate source and regulator of the universe—reinforcing a devotional-theological conclusion within the broader discourse on peace, duty, and right understanding after the war.
