नारद उवाच
The verse functions as a colophon marking the end of a chapter whose subject is Śukadeva’s ‘upward ascent,’ a traditional emblem of liberation (mokṣa) and the culmination of renunciant realization. Ethically, it points to the ideal that inner freedom and detachment can transcend worldly bonds.
This is the formal closing statement: it announces that the chapter describing Śukadeva’s ascent has been completed within the Mokṣadharma portion of the Śānti Parva. It does not advance the plot further but signals the end of the instructional episode.
