Śānti-parva Adhyāya 30: Nārada–Parvata Samaya-bhaṅga, Śāpa, and the Marriage of Sukumārī
tau tatheti pratijñāya maharṣī lokapūjitau
The verse highlights the ethical weight of a pledge (pratijñā): assent is not casual speech but a binding commitment, especially when made by revered authorities such as sages, whose conduct models dharma for society.
Two respected great sages respond “tathā iti” (“so be it”) and formally undertake a promise, indicating their agreement to proceed according to the discussed course of action.
