सहसंर॑ तुभ्यमित्युक्त्वा ब्राह्मणान् सम्प्रपद्यते । “राजा अपने विशाल यज्ञमें ब्राह्मणोंको सोनेके निष्क दिया करते थे। वहाँ द्विजलोग पुकार-पुकारकर कहते कि “ब्राह्मणो! यह तुम्हारे लिये निष्क है
sahasraṃ tubhyam ity uktvā brāhmaṇān samprapadyate |
قال فايُو: «لمّا أعلن الملك: “ألفُ نِشْكَةٍ لك”، استطاع عندئذٍ أن يستجلب البراهمة ليتقدّموا. ففي ذلك اليَجْنَة العظيم كانت تُعرَض نِشْكَاتٌ من ذهب، وكان ذوو الميلادين يكرّرون النداء: “أيها البراهمة! هذه النِشْكَة لكم، هذه النِشْكَة لكم”، ومع ذلك لم يتقدّم أحدٌ ليأخذ. ولمّا عُظِّم العطاء—“ألفٌ لك”—ظهر من يقبل.» وتُبرز الحادثة كيف تُختَبَر طهارة العطاء وضبطُ النفس لدى المستحقّ بعِظَم الإغراء، وكيف تستطيع السخاء أن يبدّد التردّد من غير إكراه.
