पूर्वोपायोपपन्नेन मार्गण वरवर्णिनि | न मे सुरा: प्रयच्छन्ति भागं यज्ञस्य धर्मत:,सुन्दरि! पूर्वनिश्चित नियमके अनुसार धर्मकी दृष्टिसे ही देवतालोग यज्ञमें मुझे भाग नहीं अर्पित करते हैं
pūrvopāyopapannena mārgaṇa varavarṇini | na me surāḥ prayacchanti bhāgaṃ yajñasya dharmataḥ, sundari ||
قال مهيشڤارا: «يا ذات اللون البهيّ، مع أنّي طُلِبتُ وفق الوسائل الصحيحة المقرّرة منذ القدم، فإن الآلهة—تمسّكًا بما يعدّونه هم قاعدةَ الدارما—لا يقدّمون لي نصيبي المستحق في القربان».
महेश्वर उवाच
The verse highlights how ‘dharma’ and ritual correctness can be invoked to justify exclusion: even when one follows established means, those controlling religious distribution may deny a rightful share, revealing the ethical tension between formal propriety and substantive justice.
Maheśvara addresses a woman (varavarṇinī/sundarī) and complains that the devas, claiming adherence to dharma, do not allot him his portion of the sacrificial offering, setting up a conflict about recognition and entitlement within sacrificial order.
