Instruction on the Cessation of Craving

True wisdom is marked by inner equanimity and freedom: one is not shaken by opposites (cold/heat, pleasure/pain), does not rely on social validation through salutations or blessings, and remains unbound by desire and expectation—thus living purely and moving through the world without moral stain.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma and liberation, Kapila describes the conduct and inner state of liberated or near-liberated sages: their outward simplicity and non-dependence on ritualized social exchange reflects an inward release from craving, sin, and attachment.
