Yoga-kṛtya (योककृत्य) — Vyāsa on Sense-Restraint, Obstacles, and Brahman-Realization

आलम्भयज्ञा: क्षत्राश्न॒ हविर्यज्ञा विश: स्मृता: । परिचारयज्ञा: शूद्रास्तु तपोयज्ञा द्विजातय:,ब्राह्मणोंके लिये तप ही यज्ञ है, क्षत्रियोंके लिये हिंसाप्रधान युद्ध आदि ही यज्ञ हैं, वैश्योंक लिये घृत आदि हविष्यकी आहुति देना ही यज्ञ है और शूद्रोंके लिये तीनों वर्णोकी सेवा ही यज्ञ है

ālam̐bhayajñāḥ kṣatrāś ca haviryajñā viśaḥ smṛtāḥ | paricārayajñāḥ śūdrās tu tapoyajñā dvijātayaḥ ||

قال فياسا: أمّا الكشاتريا فالقربان عندهم هو من نوع «آلَمْبها»—أعمالٌ تقوم على الشدّة والقوة، كالحرب وإظهار السلطان الملكي. وأمّا الفيشيا فقربانهم تقديمُ الهَفِس، كالسمن المصفّى (ghee) وسائر القرابين، في النار المقدّسة. وأمّا الشودرا فقربانهم الخدمةُ والقيامُ على شؤون الطبقات الثلاث الأخرى. وأمّا «ذوو الميلاد الثاني» (dvija) فقربانهم التَّقشّف (tapas): تهذيب النفس والانضباط والسعي الروحي. وهكذا يُعلَّم كلُّ فريقٍ يَجْنًا يليق بمقامه، ليُوجَّه الواجب إلى نظام المجتمع وإلى كبح الداخل.
