Manu’s Instruction on Elemental Origination, Sense-Withdrawal, and Discrimination of the Supreme Nature
तम आदि गुण बुद्धिको बारंबार विषयोंकी ओर ले जाते हैं; तथा बुद्धिके साथ-साथ मनसहित पाँचों इन्द्रियोंकोी और उनकी समस्त वृत्तियोंको भी ले जाते हैं। उस बुद्धिके अभावमें गुण कैसे रह सकते हैं? ।।
iti tanmayam evaitat sarvaṁ sthāvara-jaṅgamam | pralīyate coddhavati tasmān nirdiśyate tathā ||
قال بهيشما: وهكذا فإن هذا العالم بأسره—كل ما هو ساكن وما هو متحرك—إنما يقوم بوصفه تجلّيًا لذاك وحده. فيه يذوب ويرجع، ومنه ينهض من جديد؛ ولذلك وُصف على هذا النحو، لبيان أن جميع الظواهر قائمة على ذلك المبدأ الكامن.
भीष्म उवाच
All moving and unmoving existence is presented as 'tanmaya'—pervaded by and dependent upon a single underlying reality; from it the world arises and into it it dissolves. Ethically, this supports detachment: one should not cling to transient sense-objects, recognizing their cyclical arising and passing.
In Shanti Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhishthira on dharma and higher knowledge. Here he concludes a point about the nature of the world and its source—describing the cosmos as emerging from, and returning to, the same fundamental principle.
