'भैया! इस नेवलेसे मुझे बड़ा डर लग रहा है। इसलिये मैं तुम्हारे पीछे इस जालमें प्रवेश कर जाऊँगा, परंतु दादा! तुम मुझे मार न डालना, बचा लेना; क्योंकि जीवित रहनेपर ही मैं तुम्हारी रक्षा करनेमें समर्थ हूँ ।।

bhīṣma uvāca | ulūkāc caiva māṃ rakṣa kṣudraḥ prārthayate hi mām | ahaṃ chetsyāmi te pāśān sakhe satyena te śape ||

قال بيشما: «يا أخي! إنني أرتاع كثيرًا من هذا النمس. لذلك سأدخل هذا الشَّرَك خلفك؛ ولكن يا كبيرَنا، لا تقتلني—بل أنقذني، فإني لا أقدر على حمايتك إلا إذا بقيت حيًّا. واحمِني أيضًا من البومة؛ فذلك المخلوق الوضيع يطلب حياتي حقًّا. يا صديقي، أقسم لك بالحقّ نفسه: سأقطع قيودك.»
