Apaddharma Determination: Dialogue of Viśvāmitra and the Śvapaca
छेत्स्याम्यहं तमप्याशु निर्वतो भव लोमश । “मैंने बहुतसे तंतु काट डाले हैं, केवल एक ही डोरी बाकी रख छोड़ी है। उसे भी मैं शीघ्र ही काट डालूँगा; अत: लोमश! तुम शान्त रहो, घबराओ न' ।।
chetsyāmy ahaṃ tam apy āśu nirvato bhava lomaśa | tayoḥ saṃvadator evaṃ tathaivāpannayor dvayoḥ ||
قال بهيشما: «لقد قطعتُ خيوطًا كثيرة من قبل؛ ولم يبقَ إلا حبلٌ واحد. وسأقطعه هو أيضًا بلا إبطاء. لذلك يا لوماشا، اثبت واهدأ—ولا تجزع». وهكذا، إذ كانا يتحادثان على هذا النحو، ظلّا معًا في الحال نفسها من الشدة والبلاء.
भीष्म उवाच
Maintain inner calm (nirvata) in adversity and act with firm resolve to remove the final cause of bondage or danger—steadiness of mind is presented as an ethical strength.
Bhishma addresses the sage Lomasha, assuring him that most ‘strands’ have already been cut and only one remains, which he will soon sever; he urges Lomasha not to panic, while the text notes that both are still in a distressed situation as they converse.
