Praise of Venerating Mother, Father, and Teacher
yaśaḥ prāpsyasi bhadre te dharmaṃ ca sumahat-phalam | bharatanandana! tasmāt tvaṃ trividha-loka-svarūpeṣu eṣu triṣu prati uttamaṃ vartasva | tava kalyāṇaṃ bhavatu | evaṃ kṛtvā tvaṃ yaśaḥ prāpsyasi mahad-phala-pradaṃ dharmaṃ ca |
Bhishma teaches that excellent conduct toward the key triad that sustains the world-order leads to both worldly honor (yaśas) and spiritually potent dharma (great-fruit-bearing righteousness).
In Śānti Parva, Bhishma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma after the war. Here he assures him of fame and great merit if he maintains exemplary behavior toward the ‘three’ that represent the threefold world-order, concluding with a blessing for his welfare.
