Adhyāya 14: Śalya’s Missile-Pressure and the Pāṇḍava Convergence (शल्यस्य शरवर्षम्)

vidhūmo dṛśyate rājan tathā pārtho dhanañjayaḥ | rājan! yathā carācarajagat dagdhvā bhagavān agnidevaḥ dhūmarahitaḥ dṛśyate, tathā kuntīkumāra arjuno 'pi dedīpyamāna āsīt |

Educational Q&A

The verse uses Agni as a moral-psychological image: when power is aligned with a clear purpose, it appears ‘smokeless’—pure, unobstructed, and awe-inspiring. Arjuna’s radiance signifies focused valor and righteous resolve in the midst of war.

Sanjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna is visibly blazing on the battlefield. He compares Arjuna’s appearance to the Fire-god who, after consuming the world, is seen without smoke—emphasizing Arjuna’s overwhelming, purified martial energy.
