Even amid overwhelming sorrow, one should first do what the situation demands (prāptakāla—timely duty) and then seek higher guidance. The verse highlights dharma as practical responsibility joined with humility before wisdom: action is followed by turning to a seer for clarity and steadiness.
After completing necessary, time-appropriate arrangements, Arjuna—overcome with tears—goes to Vyāsa’s hermitage and sees the sage seated there, indicating Arjuna’s need for counsel and direction during the Mausala Parva’s period of loss and upheaval.
