Martial capability alone cannot guarantee protection when dharma and social order disintegrate; the verse highlights the ethical tragedy of a community losing the capacity to safeguard its own people.
In the aftermath of the Yādava/Vṛṣṇi downfall, even the remaining Vṛṣṇi fighters—equipped with elephants, horses, and chariots—cannot retrieve their people who are being seized and carried away, indicating widespread lawlessness and helplessness.
