भूमिर्धनंजयस्यासीन्मातेव जयकाड्क्षिणी । दयौ (आकाशकी अधिष्ठात्री देवी) माताके समान सूतपुत्र कर्णके पक्षमें खड़ी थी; परंतु भूदेवी माताकी भाँति धनंजयकी विजय चाहती थी

bhūmir dhanañjayasya āsīn māteva jayākāṅkṣiṇī | dyauḥ (ākāśakī adhiṣṭhātrī devī) mātāke samān sūtaputra-karṇake pakṣaṁmeṁ khaṛī thī; parantu bhūdevī mātākī bhāṁti dhanañjayakī vijaya cāhatī thī |

قال سانجيا: إنَّ الأرضَ نفسَها وقفت إلى جانب دهننجايا (أرجونا) كالأم، تتوق إلى ظفره. ومع أنَّ دياوḥ—الإلهة المُشرفة على السماء—كانت في صفِّ كارṇa، ابنِ السائق، فإنَّ إلهةَ الأرض، بانحياز الأم، كانت تريد انتصار دهننجايا. وهكذا تُصوِّر الأبياتُ المعركةَ لا كصدامِ محاربين فحسب، بل كمِحكٍّ أخلاقيٍّ تميل فيه القوى الكونية إلى الجانب الموافق للدارما، أي للنظام الحقّ.
