vyaśrūyanta mitho bhinnāḥ sarvalokās tu māriṣa | devadānavagandharvāḥ piśācoragarākṣasāḥ ||

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that adharma-driven war is not merely a human event; it reverberates across the moral and cosmic order. The ‘discordant’ sounds from many realms suggest a universe unsettled when righteous balance is violated.

Sañjaya reports to the king that a great, mixed uproar was heard—voices/cries as if from all classes of beings (gods, demons, celestial musicians, ghouls, serpents, and rākṣasas). It functions as an ominous atmospheric sign accompanying the battlefield events.
