Even exalted beings act within dharmic order: they seek proper authorization (anujñā) before departing, and they recognize completion of duty (kṛtakāma) as the right moment to withdraw. The verse also highlights the ethical value of sincere effort (prayatna) in accomplishing a legitimate purpose.
Bhīṣma (Pitamaha) states that, after obtaining the Lord’s permission, the assembled gods led by Prajāpati leave and return as they came, their objective having been achieved through their efforts.
