Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 96: Sātyaki’s Line-Penetration, Encirclement, and Advance toward Arjuna
śarva uvāca—viditaṃ vo yathā devāḥ kṛtyeyaṃ sumahābalā | tvaṣṭas-tejo-bhavā ghorā durnivāryākṛtātmabhiḥ ||
The verse links vulnerability to destructive forces with lack of self-mastery: those who have not disciplined mind and senses (akṛtātmā) find it extremely difficult to resist or neutralize harmful, fearsome powers. Ethical strength is presented as inner restraint, not merely external force.
Śiva (as Śarva) addresses the gods, identifying a terrifying, powerful kṛtyā—an embodied magical destructive force—said to have arisen from Tvaṣṭṛ’s tejas. He warns that such a force is especially difficult to counter for people lacking self-control.
