निहतैववरिणैरश्रैः क्षत्रियैश्न निपातितै: । अदृश्यत मही तत्र दारुणप्रतिदर्शना
sañjaya uvāca |
nihatā iva vāriṇair astrāiḥ kṣatriyaiś ca nipātitaiḥ |
adṛśyata mahī tatra dāruṇa-pratidarśanā ||
قال سانجايا: هناك بدت الأرض مروّعة للنظر، كأنها صُرعت بسيولٍ من السلاح وبسقوط محاربي الكشاتريا. وكانت ساحة القتال مبعثرة بعرباتٍ محطمة—بما عليها من لوازم حسنة ومقاعد وقضبان وقيود وحجلات—محاورها مكسورة، وأنْيارها متشظية، وحطامها متناثر في كل اتجاه، ولا تزال تحمل الدروع والأقواس. وقد سقطت على الأرض الأكاليل والحُليّ والملابس والرايات العظيمة. وقُتل كثير من الفيلة والخيول، وسقط كثير من الكشاتريا كذلك. وبكل ذلك بدت تلك الأرض شديدة الهول: صورة لخراب الحرب وللثمن الأخلاقي الثقيل للعنف.
