Jayadratha-rakṣā: Conch Signals and Encirclement of Arjuna
Chapter 79
go-sahasra-pradātṝṇāṁ kratu-dānāṁ ca yā gatiḥ | naivaśikaṁ cābhimataṁ dadatāṁ yā gatiḥ śubhā ||
The verse affirms the dharmic principle that generous giving—especially high-merit gifts like cows, sacrificial support, and providing a well-equipped dwelling—leads to an auspicious ‘gati’ (spiritual destiny). It functions as a benediction, extending that same merit and blessing to the addressed person.
In Sañjaya’s report within the Drona Parva war narrative, this line appears as a formal blessing: he invokes the auspicious reward traditionally associated with major acts of charity, wishing that the same blessed outcome accrue to the person being addressed.
