Adhyāya 62: Sañjaya’s Admonition to Dhṛtarāṣṭra on Rāja-dharma and Consequence

taṁ dṛṣṭvā pitur utsaṅge śayānaṁ deva-varcasam | devatā iva samāna-tejasvinaṁ taṁ śiśuṁ pituḥ kroḍe śayānaṁ dṛṣṭvā devā anyonyam ūcuḥ—kasya dugdhaṁ pāsyati? iti śrutvā indra uvāca—pūrvaṁ mamaiva dugdhaṁ pāyatām iti |

Educational Q&A

Extraordinary potential (tejas) must be supported and guided by rightful guardianship; the divine order steps in to ensure that power is nurtured responsibly rather than left to uncertainty.

Nārada describes a radiant infant lying in his father’s lap; the gods wonder who will nurse him, and Indra asserts that the child should first drink Indra’s own milk, marking the child as divinely recognized and specially fostered.
