अपीडयद् रणमुखे पश्यतां सर्वधन्विनाम् । तत्पश्चात् भरतश्रेष्ठ दुर्योधनने कुपित हो दूसरा विशाल धनुष हाथमें लेकर युद्धके मुहानेपर सम्पूर्ण धनुर्धरोंके देखते-देखते पैने बाणोंद्वारा भीमसेनको पीड़ा देनी आरम्भ की
sañjaya uvāca | apīḍayad raṇamukhe paśyatāṃ sarvadhanvinām | tatpaścāt bharataśreṣṭha duryodhanaḥ kupito dvitīyaṃ viśālaṃ dhanuḥ hastam ānīya yuddhamukhe samasta-dhanurdharāṇāṃ paśyatāṃ paśyatāṃ tīkṣṇaiḥ śaraiḥ bhīmasenaṃ pīḍayitum ārabdhavān |
قال سنجيا: ثمّ، في مقدّمة المعركة ذاتها، وعلى مرأى من جميع الرماة، تناول دوريودھانا الغاضب قوسًا عظيمًا آخر وشرع يرهق بهيماسينا بسهامٍ حادّة. ويُظهر المشهد كيف تدفع الحنقُ والخصومةُ المحاربين إلى تصعيد العنف علنًا، طلبًا للغلبة في الحيلة، وللمسرح الأخلاقي للسمعة في الحرب.
