As a colophon-style closing, the verse’s main function is structural: it highlights the importance of authoritative speech (Droṇa’s counsel/command) in directing action during war, implicitly reminding readers that words—orders, advice, vows—carry ethical weight and consequences in the epic’s dharmic landscape.
This line signals the completion of a chapter within the Jayadratha-slaying episode of the Drona Parva, specifically one focused on Droṇa’s words. It serves as a formal endpoint before the narrative proceeds to the next development in the Kurukṣetra war.
