The verse highlights steadfastness to a righteous pledge (satya-vikrama): in the chaos of war, Arjuna’s action is framed as unwavering commitment to a vowed duty, illustrating how resolve and responsibility drive conduct—even when the consequences are severe.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna, after cutting down a large portion of the opposing warriors, advances directly upon Jayadratha, the Sindhu-king, and begins his attack—marking a decisive turn toward the day’s central target.
