Chapter 137: Yuyudhāna (Sātyaki) Slays Somadatta; Yudhiṣṭhira Redirected from Droṇa
तत्राद्भुतमपश्याम भीमसेनस्य विक्रमम् । संवार्याधिरथ्थिं बाणैर्यज्जघान तवात्मजान्,वहाँ हमने भीमसेनका यह अद्भुत पराक्रम देखा कि उन्होंने सूतपुत्र कर्णको अपने बाणोंद्वारा रोककर आपके पुत्रोंको मार डाला
tatrādbhutam apaśyāma bhīmasenasya vikramam | saṃvāryādhirathiṃ bāṇair yaj jaghāna tavātmajān ||
قال سانجيا: «هناك شهدنا بأسَ بهيماسينا العجيب: إذ كفَّ المحاربَ العظيم على العربة (كارنا) بسهامه، ثم مضى فصرع أبناءك.»
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the Mahabharata’s recurring tension between kinship and kshatriya-duty: in war, extraordinary prowess is measured not only by defeating a great opponent but also by decisive action that changes the battle’s moral and strategic landscape—often at a tragic cost.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that Bhima displayed remarkable might: he held back Karna (described as an adhirathi) with arrows and, taking advantage of that restraint, killed Dhritarashtra’s sons on the battlefield.
