athāśu niśitaṃ bhallaṃ śaineyaḥ kṛtavarmaṇaḥ | preṣayāmāsa samare śarāṃś ca caturo 'parān ||
قال سنجيا: ثم إن شاينيَ أسرع فأرسل في ساحة القتال سهمًا من نوع «بهلّا» حادًّا كالنصل نحو كريتافَرما، وأتبعَه في الحال بأربعة سهامٍ أخرى.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the momentum of battle where warrior-duty (kṣātra-dharma) expresses itself through swift, decisive action; ethically, it underscores how conflict tends to escalate—one strike invites further strikes—testing restraint and discernment amid violence.
Sañjaya reports that Śaineya (Sātyaki) attacks Kṛtavarman: he first shoots a sharp bhalla arrow at him and then follows it with four additional arrows in rapid succession during the fight.
