Vāsudeva-Māhātmya: Duryodhana’s Inquiry and Bhīṣma’s Theological Account of Keśava

amānuṣeṇa rūpeṇa carantaṃ pitaraṃ tava |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how extraordinary power in war evokes awe and competing interpretations among observers, reminding the listener that battlefield events are not only physical contests but also moral and psychological experiences shaped by perception, reputation, and the sense of destiny.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma, acting with seemingly superhuman prowess, is moving through the battlefield and slaughtering the Pāṇḍava troops; onlookers react by discussing Bhīṣma in many different ways.
