कलिड्जप्रभवां चैव मांसशोणितकर्दमाम् | रुधिरस्यन्दिनीं तत्र भीम: प्रावर्तयन्नदीम्,भीमसेनने वहाँ एक भयंकर नदी प्रकट कर दी, जो कलिंग-सेनारूपी उदगमस्थानसे निकली थी। उसमें मांस और शोणितकी ही कीच थी। वह नदी रक्तकी ही धारा बहा रही थी
kaliṅga-prabhavāṃ caiva māṃsa-śoṇita-kardamām | rudhira-syandinīṃ tatra bhīmaḥ prāvartayannadīm ||
قال سنجيا: هناك أطلق بهيما نهراً مروّعاً كأنه ينبثق من جيش كالينغا نفسه—طينه من لحمٍ ودم، وجريانه سيلٌ من القَتَمَة الدامية. وتبرز هذه الصورة فظاعة الحرب الأخلاقية: إذ يغدو البأس غير منفصل عن الذبح، وتتحول ساحة القتال إلى معلمٍ لانهيار القيم.
