Educational Q&A

Even amid war, one may choose allegiance based on dharma rather than birth or faction. Yuyutsu’s pleased resolve and direct address to Dharmarāja highlight an ethical commitment: recognizing rightful conduct and aligning oneself with it.

Sañjaya reports that Yuyutsu looks toward the Pāṇḍavas and, with a glad heart, speaks to Yudhiṣṭhira (called Dharmarāja and Kuntī’s son). The verse functions as a transition into Yuyutsu’s forthcoming statement.
