tato nṛpāḥ samājahus tanūni ca mṛdūni ca | upadhānāni mukhyāni naicchat tāni pitāmahaḥ ||
ثم جاء الملوك بوسائد كثيرة نفيسة، مصنوعة من مواد ناعمة رقيقة؛ غير أن الجدّ بهيشما لم يُرِد أن يقبلها.
संजय उवाच
Bhīṣma’s refusal of luxurious comfort highlights steadfastness in dharma and self-discipline: even in pain he maintains the austerity and dignity expected of a great kṣatriya elder, valuing principle over ease.
After Bhīṣma has fallen and lies suffering, the surrounding kings bring fine, soft pillows to ease him; Bhīṣma declines them, choosing to endure without accepting such comforts.
