प्रावर्तयत संग्रामे शोणितोदां महानदीम्‌ । मध्येन कुरुसैन्यानां पाण्डवानां च भारत

Transliteration

sañjaya uvāca |

prāvartayat saṅgrāme śoṇitodāṃ mahānadīm |

madhyena kuru-sainyānāṃ pāṇḍavānāṃ ca bhārata ||

Translation

قال سنجيا: في خضمّ القتال أطلق أرجونا نهراً عظيماً ماؤه دمٌ، يجري بين جيشي الكورو والپاندڤا، يا بهاراتا. وتُبرز هذه الصورة الكلفة الأخلاقية المروّعة للحرب: فحتى إذا خيضت لغايةٍ عادلة، فإن الميدان يُغمر بالمعاناة، وتغدو البسالة البطولية غير منفصلة عن المأساة التي تُنشئها.
