Marutta’s Sacrifice: Indra’s Threat, Saṃvarta’s Mantric Restraint, and Divine Reconciliation (अध्याय १०)

Marutta uvāca: indraḥ sākṣāt sahasābhyetu vipra havir-yajñe pratigṛhṇātu caiva | svaṁ svaṁ dhiṣṇyaṁ caiva juṣantu devā hutaṁ somaṁ pratigṛhṇantu caiva ||

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes dharmic ritual order and reverent hospitality: the sacrificer seeks the gods’ direct presence, proper seating, and willing acceptance of offerings, showing that worship is not mere formality but a relationship of honor, invitation, and rightful distribution of shares.

King Marutta addresses a brahmin-sage, urging him to make the necessary effort/arrangements so that Indra arrives quickly to the sacrifice, accepts his oblation, and the other gods take their appointed ritual seats and partake of the offered Soma together.
