Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
सा वल्विना वार्यमाणा देवैरपि सरिद्वरा । समुत्ससर्ज तं॑ गर्भ मेरौ गिरिवरे तदा,देवताओं तथा अग्निके मना करनेपर भी सरिताओंमें श्रेष्ठ गंगाने उस गर्भको गिरिराज मेरुके शिखरपर छोड़ दिया
sā valvinā vāryamāṇā devair api saridvarā | samutsasarja taṁ garbhaṁ merau girivare tadā ||
قال بهيشما: مع أن الآلهة حاولوا كبحها أيضًا، فإن الغانغا—سيدة الأنهار—أطلقت ذلك الجنين؛ وفي ذلك الحين ألقت به على جبل ميرو، خير الجبال وأشرفها.
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the working of cosmic order (dharma/ṛta): even when divine authorities attempt restraint, what is destined proceeds, but in a manner that preserves balance—here, by placing the potent embryo in an appropriate sacred locus (Meru).
Ganga, described as the foremost river, is being checked even by the gods; nevertheless she releases a certain embryo and deposits it on the peak of Mount Meru, setting the stage for subsequent developments connected with that birth.
