Chapter 84: Brahmā’s Counsel on Tāraka, the Search for Agni, and the Genesis of Skanda
Kārttikeya
yena devāḥ pavitreṇa bhuñjate lokam uttamam | yat pavitra pavitrāṇāṁ tad ghṛtaṁ śirasā vahet |
The verse elevates ghṛta (ghee) as a supremely purifying, sacred substance central to divine worship and yajña; it recommends honoring it with the highest bodily reverence (bearing it on the head), underscoring respect for ritual purity and the means by which dharma is sustained.
Vyāsa is speaking in a didactic context, praising the sanctity and purificatory power of ghee—linked with the gods’ enjoyment of offerings and the maintenance of higher realms—and prescribing a gesture of veneration toward it.
