Educational Q&A

The verse underscores dharma in household life: marriage should be conducted vidhivat—according to prescribed rites—so that the union is ethically and socially sanctioned, bringing rightful joy and stability.

Bhishma narrates a marriage moment: a foremost Brahmarishi formally performs the pāṇigrahaṇa (hand-taking) of the bride, and the bride, having gained such a worthy husband, feels great happiness.
