The verse presents a karmic progression across births: after a specified (thirtyfold) span of time, a being attains Vaishya status, and then remains for a long duration cycling within that same level—implying that ethical conduct and accumulated karma govern both ascent and stagnation in social-spiritual conditions.
Bhishma continues an instructional discourse on the consequences of actions across time and rebirth, describing how, after a long measured period, one comes to be born as a Vaishya and then continues for a long time in that condition, repeatedly returning to it.
