Mataṅga–Śakra Dialogue on Tapas, Status, and Moral Qualities
Bhīṣma uvāca: śīlavṛttis tu yat kṛtyaṃ prātas tat kṛtavān śuciḥ | kṛtakṛtyam upātiṣṭhat siddham atithiṃ tadā ||
Dharma is upheld through disciplined daily observance (morning rites, cleanliness) and respectful hospitality; one should complete one’s obligatory duties and then serve a guest properly, especially a worthy or accomplished visitor.
A disciplined householder rises at dawn, purifies himself, completes his morning rituals, and then approaches to serve an accomplished guest, who has likewise finished his own morning bathing and worship.
