हविध्रश्न पृषध्रश्न प्रतीप: शान्तनुस्तथा । अज: प्राचीनबर्हिश्व तथेक्ष्वाकुर्महायशा:
havidhraśnaḥ pṛṣadhraśnaḥ pratīpaḥ śāntanus tathā | ajaḥ prācīnabarhiś ca tathekṣvākur mahāyaśāḥ ||
قال بهيشما: «والآن اسمعوا أيضًا أسماء أولئك الحكماء الملوك: هفيدھرشنا (Havidhraśna)، وبرشادھرشنا (Pṛṣadhraśna)، وبرتيبا (Pratīpa)، وشانتنو (Śāntanu)؛ وكذلك أجا (Aja)، وبراچينابرهيس (Prācīnabarhis)، وإكشواكو (Ikṣvāku) ذائع الصيت.»
भीष्म उवाच
That remembering and reciting the names of dharmic royal sages is itself a dharma-practice: it trains the mind toward righteous ideals of kingship and grants a share in the merit associated with dharmic conduct.
Bhishma continues an extended enumeration of celebrated kings/royal sages. This verse adds several names to the list, which the chapter frames as worthy of daily remembrance and recitation.
