Śiva-stavarāja: Upamanyu’s Preface and Initiation of the Śarva-Nāma Enumeration
Anuśāsana-parva 17
lohitākṣo mahākṣaś ca vijayākṣo viśāradaḥ | saṅgraho nigrahaḥ kartā sarpacīranivāsanaḥ ||
The verse praises the divine as both compassionate sustainer (saṅgraha) and firm disciplinarian (nigraha), presenting ethical governance as a balance of protection, order, and wise discernment.
Vāyu is reciting a stuti-like description, listing honorific epithets that characterize the deity’s power, wisdom, and ascetic symbolism (serpent-skin attire), as part of a broader discourse on dharma and venerating the divine.
