rogārto vyādhiyukto vā paṭhan pāpāt pramucyate | vāstumadhye tu paṭhataḥ kule svastyayanaṃ bhavet ||
The verse teaches the purificatory and protective power of recitation: it removes pāpa (moral demerit) and is believed to promote health and auspicious welfare, extending its benefit from the individual to the whole family when performed within the home.
Bhīṣma, in his instruction on dharma and religious observances, describes the fruit (phala) of reciting the referenced sacred names/formula: relief from sin and the arising of svastyayana—well-being and auspiciousness—for one’s household and lineage.
