Spiritual accomplishment (saṁsiddhi) is linked to disciplined observances (niyamas) practiced by the virtuous who have adopted forest-dwelling; hence vānaprasthas must follow a specific prescribed duty, which the speaker is about to detail.
Śrī Maheśvara addresses the audience and introduces an instruction: he states that disciplined forest-dwellers attain perfection and then announces that he will describe the particular practice/duty appropriate for vānaprasthas.
