Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
tam ahaṁ prāñjalir bhūtvā mṛgapakṣiṣv athāgniṣu | dharme ca śiṣyavarge ca samapṛccham anāmayam ||
Respect for dharma is shown not only through words but through attentive concern for the whole āśrama ecosystem—living creatures, sacred rites, moral conduct, and the disciple community—seeking that all remain anāmaya (undisturbed and well).
Vāsudeva, approaching in humility with folded hands, asks after the welfare of the hermitage: whether the animals and birds are safe, the sacred fires are properly maintained, dharma is being observed, and the disciples are doing well.
