Yayāti–Devayānī Dialogue and Śukra’s Consent

abrāhmaṇaṁ kartum icchanti raudrās te māṁ yathā vyabhicaranti nityam | apy asya pāpasya bhaved ihāntaḥ kaṁ brahmahatyā na dahed apīndram ||

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the grave ethical weight of brahmahatyā (killing a brāhmaṇa) and the inevitability of karmic consequence: even the highest, like Indra, is not beyond the burning force of such sin.

The speaker reports that hostile, fierce-natured opponents are trying to undermine his brahmin status and repeatedly act against him; he warns that the sinful outcome will soon become evident, invoking Indra as an example that no one escapes the consequences of brahmahatyā.
