The verse highlights dharma through disciplined brahmacarya undertaken under a guru’s guidance. Ethical learning is framed as requiring restraint, long-term commitment, and the teacher’s sanction—knowledge is not merely acquired, but earned through character and obedience to rightful authority.
A student addresses his Brahmin teacher as the supreme guru and requests permission to live near him while observing the highest brahmacarya for a thousand years. The moment emphasizes formal acceptance of a vow and the centrality of the guru’s approval in the student’s spiritual-educational path.
