ययाति–देवयानी संवादः
Yayāti–Devayānī Dialogue and Śukra’s Consent
ऋषेरज्ञलिरस: पौत्रं पुत्र साक्षाद् बृहस्पते: । नाम्ना कचमिति ख्यातं शिष्यं गृह्नातु मां भवान्,“भगवन्! मैं अंगिरा ऋषिका पौत्र तथा साक्षात् बृहस्पतिका पुत्र हूँ। मेरा नाम कच है। आप मुझे अपने शिष्यके रूपमें ग्रहण करें
ṛṣer añjalirasaḥ pautraṃ putraḥ sākṣād bṛhaspateḥ | nāmnā kacam iti khyātaṃ śiṣyaṃ gṛhṇātu māṃ bhavān ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: «أنا حفيد الرِّشي أَنْغِيرَس، وابن بْرِهَسْبَتي المباشر. يُعرَف اسمي بكَچا. أيها الجليل، تفضّل فاقبلني تلميذًا لديك.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic way of seeking knowledge: approaching a teacher with humility, clear intent, and readiness to enter the disciplined guru–śiṣya relationship. Lineage is stated as a mark of accountability and trustworthiness, not as arrogance.
Kaca introduces himself—identifying his ancestry (Aṅgiras) and father (Bṛhaspati)—and formally requests to be accepted as a disciple by the addressed venerable person (the prospective teacher).
