King Duḥṣanta’s Entry into the Forest Hunt
सत्यवत्युवाच विद्धि मां भगवन् कनन््यां सदा पितृवशानुगाम्,सत्यवतीने कहा--भगवन्! आपको मालूम होना चाहिये कि मैं सदा अपने पिताके अधीन रहनेवाली कुमारी कन्या हूँ
satyavaty uvāca—viddhi māṃ bhagavan kanyāṃ sadā pitṛvaśānugām |
قالت ساتيافاتي: «يا سيدي الجليل، اعلم عني هذا: إنني عذراء غير متزوجة، ما برحتُ أعيش على طاعة سلطة أبي وخضوع أمره».
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as expressed through filial obedience and personal restraint: Satyavatī frames her identity and choices as aligned with her father’s authority, emphasizing social-ethical propriety.
In the course of the narration, Satyavatī speaks and clarifies her status as an unmarried maiden who has lived under her father’s control, setting the moral and social context for the ensuing interaction.
