आशीविषै: कृष्णसर्प: सुप्तं चैनमदंशयत् | सर्वेष्वेवाड्गदेशेषु न ममार च शत्रुहा,एक दिन दुर्योधनने भीमसेनको सोते समय उनके सम्पूर्ण अंग-प्रत्यंगोंमें काले साँपोंसे डँसवा दिया, किंतु शत्रुधाती भीम मर न सके
Āśīviṣaiḥ kṛṣṇasarpaḥ suptaṃ cainam adaṃśayat | sarveṣv evāṅgadeśeṣu na mamāra ca śatruhā ||
قال فايشَمبايانا: إن دُريودَهنَة جعل بهيمسينا، وهو نائم، يُلدَغ في جميع أعضائه بأفاعٍ سوداء شديدة السُّمّ؛ غير أنّ بهيما—قاتلَ الأعداء—لم يمت.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the moral degradation of harming a sleeping, unsuspecting person through secret means; adharma may be attempted through deceit, but it does not necessarily succeed, and such acts deepen enmity and karmic consequence.
Duryodhana arranges for Bhīma, while asleep, to be bitten all over by venomous black snakes; despite this lethal attempt, Bhīma does not die, revealing his exceptional strength and setting the stage for further Kaurava hostility.
