Ādi-parva Adhyāya 3 — Janamejaya’s Rite, Dhaumya’s Parīkṣā, and Uttanka’s Kuṇḍala Quest
sa evam uktaḥ pratyuvāca—nānṛtam ūcatuḥ bhagavantī; na tv aham etam apūpam upayoktum utsahe gurave ’nivedya iti.

Even when something is permissible and no falsehood is involved, a student should maintain discipline and transparency with the teacher; ethical conduct includes restraint and respect for the guru’s authority.
Upamanyu is offered a sweet cake and is told that accepting it is not untrue or improper; he replies that he still will not consume it unless he first informs his guru, showing strict adherence to the guru’s instruction and to proper conduct.
