संवरणस्य पतनं, सचिवोपचारः, वसिष्ठस्य सूर्योपगमनम्

एवं मां भगवान् व्यास: पुरा पौरवनन्दन । प्रोवाचासुकरप्रज्ञस्तस्मादेवं चिकीर्षितम्,पौरववंशको आनन्दित करनेवाले युधिष्ठिर! इस प्रकार पूर्वकालमें दुर्लभ विवेक- विज्ञानसे सम्पन्न भगवान् व्यासने मुझसे कहा था; इसीलिये मैंने ऐसी चेष्टा की है
evaṁ māṁ bhagavān vyāsaḥ purā pauravanandana | provācāsukaraprājñas tasmād evaṁ cikīrṣitam ||
يا بهجةَ سلالةِ الباورافا، هكذا كلّمني في الأزمنة الخالية الجليلُ فياسا. كان موهوبًا بتمييزٍ نادرٍ ومعرفةٍ حقّة، فأرشدني؛ ولذلك شرعتُ في هذا المسلك من العمل امتثالًا لمشورته.
